Depression Therapy: Practical, Evidence-Based Support for Lasting Change

I specialize in treating both chronic and acute depression using practical, evidence-based approaches rooted in CBT, DBT, ACT, and mindfulness. My work is also informed by personal experience, and I understand how heavy, persistent, and isolating depression can feel. I focus on helping you build skills that are not only effective, but sustainable in real life.

In our work together, I provide clear education about the science of depression, helping you understand how biology, thoughts, behaviors, and environment all interact. I also help you develop a healthier relationship with your emotions by understanding their purpose. Emotions are not the problem. They are signals that guide us toward our needs and motivate meaningful action.

Using a cognitive behavioral approach, we work to shift the patterns that maintain depression by exploring beliefs about yourself, others, and the world. We focus on increasing cognitive flexibility, reducing rigid or self-critical thinking, and developing the ability to take a more balanced, neutral, or wise perspective. We also target behavior by changing how you respond when triggered, building healthier coping strategies, and increasing engagement in daily life.

Mindfulness is used to help you become more present, not only for the difficult moments, but also for the meaningful and positive parts of your life that depression often filters out. We also use mindfulness and metacognitive strategies to reduce rumination and break cycles of past and future focused thinking.

ACT plays an important role in helping you accept the reality that pain and discomfort are part of being human. Rather than trying to eliminate these experiences, we work to reduce the suffering that comes from avoiding them. Together, we build your ability to tolerate discomfort, respond more effectively, and take values-based action so you can move toward a life that feels more meaningful and aligned.

“In my therapy practice, I primarily help people who struggle with chronic depression and who feel hopeless about finding a solution. Many of my clients have lived with depression for years and have tried many different treatments in the past that weren't effective. Through therapy, these same clients begin to experience relief from debilitating sadness, gain confidence in themselves, discover joy and meaning in life, feel less shame and guilt, and build more fulfilling relationships.

In therapy with me, you'll identify specific goals, develop deeper insight and self-awareness into your thought and behavior patterns, improve your ability to regulate your emotions, and learn practical skills to improve your emotional well-being, build independence, and cultivate a sense of mastery over your mental health.”
